Baeolidia japonica Baba, 1933

The first specimen of this small eolid nudibranch (first photo below) was found in a lagoon reef Halimeda algae patch at a depth of 8m on 31 August 2008. It measured 10mm in length. Its papillate rhinophores and basic coloration are reminiscent of Marshall Islands Berghia major. However, it also looks kind of like the Baeolidia japonica on the Seaslugs of Hawaii site, so we are putting it there.

The specimen below measured 9mm and was found on a Kwajalein Atoll lagoon reef in Halimeda algae at a depth of 8m on 27 December 2008.

The photo below of the 31 August 2008 specimen was taken with a DynoLite digital microscope with LED lighting, so the colors seem quite different from the field shots above.
