On the aft end of the fantail of the Akibasan Maru is the ship's log, once used to determine the ship's speed in the water, but now only a stand for a colony of branching coral. The Akibasan is a large freighter resting upright on a 160 foot bottom at the northeastern side of the Kwajalein anchorage. The Akibasan was the first of the lagoon bottom wrecks found by sport divers, who hooked it with an anchor dragged from a small boat in summer of 1965.
