Myripristis violacea Bleeker, 1851
Violet or Lattice soldierfish, 35cm

These are usually seen in small groups in caves and holes on the seaward reef, and will often hover in the water just outside the holes, retreating into them at the approach of divers. The body is a bit less red than most similar species, and the second dorsal, anal and tail fins have a pretty distinctive orange coloration.

Those below are mixed in with a few more reddish Myripristis berndti.
