This encrusting purple sponge is found under rocks, usually on lagoon reefs. Aside from the color, it looks very similar to a yellowish form and is likely the same species. Both color forms are preyed upon by the nudibranch Hallaxa cryptica, which takes on the color of the sponge it is eating.
