Chalinula nematifera (de Laubenfels, 1954)

This sponge is commonly seen encrusting hard surfaces such as dead coral, pier pilings or sunken buoys in Kwajalein lagoon. From the photos, it looks as though it may colonize new areas by overgrowing and killing living coral.
