Plectorhinchus pica (Cuvier, 1828)
Spotted sweetlips or Painted sweetlip, 84cm

Plectorhinchus pica is uncommon at Kwajalein. Adults tend to be loners, usually hanging around and under large table corals (Acropora) or in seaward reef channel caves during the day. Young individuals are rarely seen, but can most often be found rather deep on the seaward slope at depths exceeding 35m.

Sweet lips indeed.

A rather large juvenile on the reeftop. It may have just recently made its way to the top of the seaward slope.
