Pseudosquilla ciliata (Fabricius, 1787)
80mm

Pseudosquilla ciliata is quite common in lagoon patches of Halimeda algae, and may live in the algae or in holes in rocks or loose coral scattered around the patch. They can also be seen on reefs in holes or under rocks. They are extremely variable in color, and it is hard to be sure from a photograph about the identity of a particular individual. It is possible that some of the numerous photos below could represent other species. This is a spearing stomatopod that reportedly feeds on crustaceans and small fish.

The next three photos show a shrimp that has just grabbed a portunid crab for lunch.
