Dardanus scutellatus (H. Milne Edwards, 1848)

Dardanus scutellatus is common in lagoon patches of Halimeda and other algae on sand. We have not recorded it from other locations. The first one below is in a shell of Gibberulus gibbosus that measured about 25mm. The easiest way to quickly distinguish these from similar species is the longitudinal lines on the bases of the antennules usually visible just below the eye stalks.

The Conomurex luhuanus shell below measured probably around 45 to 50mm.

The one below in a Conus magus shell has a lot of room for growth. But he may be booted out if a larger cone dwelling hermit comes along.
