Clibanarius corallinus (H. Milne Edwards, 1848)

At Kwajalein this is a common intertidal reef dwelling hermit. The one in the first photo below occupies a 20mm long Strigatella paupercula shell. In color, this crab closely resembles Calcinus gaimardii. We consider it different based on the hairy chelipeds and intertidal reef habitat.

The shell used by the one below is Engina mendicaria.

A larger individual in an old Turbo shell, examining a Menathais tuberosa for possible habitation. This was on the intertidal and the crab and shell are partially out of the water.
