Calcinus latens (Randall, 1840)

Calcinus latens is common on many lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. Larger specimens like the first few below have a lot of green color that is typically (but not always) less distinct or even absent in smaller individuals.

This small one occupies a yellow Canarium wilsonorum shell that measured about 16mm in length.

Below the shell is an Epitonium replicatum less than 10mm long. Some of these small ones may actually be another species, but the coloration of the eyes and antennules and the banding pattern on the walking legs make me think they are young Calcinus latens.

Very small.

A very small one in a pink Lienardia rubida shell that measures only about 10mm long.

Tiny one in Oxymeris felina.

Very tiny one in Triphora collaris.
