Ascarosepion bandense (Adam, 1939)

The rather small Ascarosepion bandense is the only cuttlefish we know of at Kwajalein. They hide under rocks and in caves during the day, but can be seen out in the open near the bottom after dark.

The small juvenile below as less than 25mm long.

Sepia bandensis egg masses are clusters of black balls attached to the undersurfaces of rocks.

Putting a lot of light on a single ball, you can see the developing cuttlefish inside.
