Goniodoridella unidonta Paz-Sedano, Ekimova, Smirnoff, Gosliner & Pola, 2023
4mm

Again, the equipment available to shoot these tiny animals out in the middle of the Pacific in 1981 makes for some rather fuzzy pictures. Formerly considered Goniodoridella savignyi , that species was recently split into several externally almost identical ("cryptic") species. One external difference was suggested by the authors as having almost triangular posterior processes that are distinctly wider at the base. At least one of our photos shows this character, so we are identifying them as G. unidonta. These are known in the Marshalls from two specimens found at Enewetak Atoll and another at Kwajalein. The Enewetak specimens below were on lagoon reefs under dead coral at a depth of about 3 meters, and the two, found at different times, measured 3 and 4mm long. These were first reported as Goniodoridiella savignyi in the Marshalls from Enewetak Atoll by Johnson & Boucher (1984).

One more 3mm individual was found exposed on algae on a Kwajalein lagoon pinnacle at night on 27 September 2014.

The photo below appears to show the more triangular posterior processes characteristic of G. unidonta.
