Roboastra gracilis (Bergh, 1877)
13mm

I recorded only one of these in Hawaii, from a night dive at Makua, Oahu, on 1 June 1980. I and others have dithered over the identity of this animal, since Roboastra gracilis from the rest of the Pacific (e.g., the Marshall Islands) has a black background color between the orange lines rather than the translucent gray seen in the specimen below. I am still not 100% convinced that the Hawaiian animals are not a new, undescribed species, but this seems like the best name to use for now.
