Aplysia californica Cooper, 1863

This is a poor photo of a huge sea hare. Although I'd seen many specimens of various Aplysia in Hawaii and the Marshalls, I was unprepared for the size of this beast, much larger than any specimens of any species I had previously encountered. It looked to be nearly half a meter in length. Yet, there is another Californian species (that I was not fortunate enough to see) that can reported get more than twice as large.
