Palmadusta ziczac (Linnaeus, 1758)
Zigzag
Cowry, 12-17mm
While not uncommon in some parts
of the Indo-Pacific, Palmadusta ziczac is one of the rarer cowries
at Kwajalein. The few specimens have come from under rocks on the seaward reef
slope and in surge channels, and occasionally from lagoon pinnacles and the
leeward interisland reefs. One was also found in a sandy lagoon Halimeda
patch. While most have been observed in water between 6-20m deep, one living
juvenile was in a bag of loose sand and rubble brought up from the deeper seaward
reef slope. This species ranges across most of the Indo-Pacific except for Hawaii.
