Bobbit worm - Eunice aphroditois

This is the famed "Bobbit" worm with a vicious reputation. An ambush predator, its wide jaws snap shut on unsuspecting prey as it pulls them beneath the sand to devour. The extended portion in this photo was about 3 inches and a body 25mm wide but its body extends far below the sand and can reach lengths of 3 meters (10 feet).
