Bearpaw or Horsehoof clam - Hippopus hippopus

Sometimes called the "horse hoof clam," Hippopus hippopus is common in open sandy areas. It must not taste good as it is seldom collected for food as are the other large clam species. Less variable in pattern and color when compared to the other giant clam species found at Kwaj, the animal is still strikingly patterned. This is a close up of the exhalent siphon and we are not sure what the gold patterned organ is that is often visible below. This clam was around 24cm
